Safety problems in storage and transportation of spent fuel

Russia continues realization of the closed fuel cycle concept (Fig. 1). This includes SF reprocessing, uranium and partial plutonium recycling in thermal and breeder reactors, as well as vitrified radwaste storage in ground-based storage facilities at reprocessing plants.
