Innovation in Overcoming Accelerated Corrosion due to Abrasion of Pump in Severe Service pulp and Paper Mill Applciations

The pumping system is critical in handling corrosive and abrasive materials in the pulp and paper mill, from the pulping operations to chemical recovery, from the power house facility to paper converting. In many cases, however, the pump system is failing to perform adequately, resulting in high levels of pump downtime, excessive maintenance and repair bills, and shortened life due to excessive wear. The causes of the porblems can be traced to one factor-the 'impingement' of the product on the pumping system-wheter it be a vane, lobe, paddle or screw, centrifugal or other pump design. In this paper, a highly innovative solution to this problem will be presented. A new pump technology has been developed which eliminates impingement between the product being pumped and the pumping system, and produces laminr, pulsation-free flow.
