By using a ventricle-vessel model with Mechano-Electrical Feedback (MEF), the fluctuation of heartbeats was investigated. The authors demonstrate that the Gaussian white noise in the blood flow results in the 1/f-type fluctuation either in the heartbeat period or in the stroke volume. The instability in the recurrent process between the electrical rhythm and the blood flow contributes to generation of the 1/f fluctuation. Results are discussed from viewpoints of self-organizing control.
