The Rocky Mountain project, with an area of approximately 20 km~2 (5,000 acres), is located on Heath Creek in Floyd county, Georgia. The site is approximately 16 km (10 miles) northwest of the City of Rome, and 12.8 km (8 miles) east of the Georgia-Alabama state line. The main features of the Project (shown in Figure 1) include: an upper reservoir with an area of 2.42 km~2 (600 acres) on Heath Creek and two auxiliary pools of 1.62 km~2 (400 acres) and 0.83 km~2 (205 acres); a power shaft and approximately 800 m (2,625 ft) of tunnel and penstock; a powerplant with an output of 760 MW at the normal minimum net head of 187 m (613.5 ft); a 4.3 km (2.7 mile) transmission line and associated switching substation; approximately 12.5 km (7.8 miles) of access roads; and recreational facilities.
