摘要

During September and October, 1996 a field study consisting of 19 fine particle monitoring sites located on both sides of the Texas-Mexico international border was conducted by the National Park Service and PROFEPA (Procuraduria Federal de Proteccion al Ambiente). The goal of this pilot program was to aid in design of future, more intensive studies in the region by working out the logistics of international cooperation, testing site locations, and getting a preliminary idea of the spatial, temporal, and inter-species patterns in fine particle concentrations in the area. Hopefully, results of this study and future monitoring will reveal the sources and species of visibility-reducing particles at Big Bend national Park.
