This paper outlines the present application of concrete sleepers on Chinese Railways, and proposes the viewpoint of taking steel fiber as a reinforcing material of concrete in sleeper producing to raise its properties of resisting crack, fatigue and impact, so as to replace wooden sleepers on curves of less than 350 m radius and at rail jionts. The paper gives a detail of the mechanical properties of the steel fiber reinforced concreter; the production technology, the structural characteristics and the test results of the steel fiber reinforced concrete sleeper. Test results show, the application of steel fiber reinforced concrete sleepers on sharpcurves and at rail jionts may improve track quality, reduce maintenance cost, save timber, and provide remarkable social and economical effects.
