Abstract: A versatile, passive 95 GHz imaging testbed is reported. Naturally occurring W-band black body radiation provides the input. One or more radiometers are mechanically scanned in a raster pattern over the focal plane. Output signals of the radiometers are amplified, sampled and integrated before A/D conversion. The passive millimeter wave (PMMW) image is formed from the resulting 2D array of focal plane data. Images from 192 by 254 to 64 by 64 pixels have been achieved, frame time being proportional to the image size. Simple image processing may be required, depending on image parameters. The test bed easily accommodates a variety of receivers, from single channel to multichannel arrays. Both superheat and tuned radio frequency radiometers have been tested. The testbed is suitable for both fixed and mobile operation. Experimental results are reported for laboratory studies and for field tests in the Big Bend and Davis Mountains regions of southern Texas. The testbed has proven to be a compact, economic and versatile method of demonstrating and exploring PMMW imaging. !3
