Abstract: This paper reports on the development of a concurrentengineering system which covers four applicationdomains in production of mechanical parts, namelydesign, manufacturing, assembly and inspection. Twoapproaches are introduced: (1) semantic feature whichdescribes information within each domain separately,and (2) feature transformation which manipulates andderives information across different applicationdomains. Their applications in generative processplanning are illustrated in a case study.!13
