External electromagnetic fields can interact with biological cells in several ways, including modifying transmembrane potential. For a simplified spherical model of a single cell in a uniform electric field, a closed form expression for transmembrane potential has been obtained. For environmental fields, the field induced transmembrane potential is negligibly small.
