Characterisation of passive functional elements for microwave monolithic integrated circuits

The modeling and characterisation of five types of passive functional elements, namely Metal-Isolator-Metal (MIM) capacitors, interdigital capacitors and octogonal inductors for microstrip technology and two CPW discontinuities (open-end and short-end stub) for coplanar technology are presented. Analytical formulas easy to use in CAD are proposed to calculate the dominant passive elements of these models. Good agreement between these results and measurements performed in the frequency range 1–30 GHz has been observed.
