Abstract: Devices incorporating multiple frequency-conversion stages within the cavity of an optical parametric oscillator can be used to extend the tuning range of the OPO or to improve its performance. We have used plane-wave theory to identify operating regimes of a number of such devices which have a large dynamic range of high efficiency. We have also carried out more detailed multidimensional numerical simulations of these regimes. By way of illustration, we discuss simulations of a high- gain device called the OPO-OPO.!19
