The particles and melt layer on the surface of a contact play an important role in the contact performance. In this paper, the surface and the cross section of a CuCr50 contact after breaking operations were observed by SEM and TEM. Experimental results show that Cu and Cr particles were different on the surface of the contact and Cr particles were smaller than those precipitated from the melt layer. Distribution of Cu and Cr in the melt layer is also discussed.
