The objective of this paper is to present the feasibility of applying Vlasov's theory of thin walled bars to model the behavior of open section beams actuated in torsion and bending by skewed piezoactuators. It is shown that piezoactuators placed at an angle with the longitudinal axis of a beam induce bending and twisting by subjecting the beam to a system of bending moments applied at a distance from the pole axis. A simple analytical model based on Vlasov's theory is presented and validated against experimental results.
