This paper presents the research being done at the Aerospace Engineering Department of Cal Poly Pomona on autonomous UAV aircraft at an undergraduate level using a Piccolo H autopilot. The research involved the development of a flight dynamics model of the Cal Poly Sig Kadet Senior aircraft. The dynamics model was then used in the Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation environment for the determination of feedback gains required for the autonomous flight. Finally, the autopilot was integrated into the aircraft and the aircraft was flown autonomously.
