SEQUOIA 2000-a reflection on the first three years

The purpose of the SEQUOIA 2000 project is to build a bettercomputing environment for global change researchers. Such researchersinvestigate issues such as global warming, ozone depletion, environmenttoxification, and species extinction, and are members of Earth SciencesDepartments at Universities and National Laboratories. SEQUOIA 2000 isthe Digital Equipment Corporation flagship research project for the1990's. We describe the SEQUOIA 2000 project and its implementationefforts during the first three years. Included are the objectives wehad, how we chose to address them and some of the lessons we learnedfrom this endeavour
