In this work, the human interface concepts used to define the manufacturing descriptions supporting the Manufacturing Control and Capacity Planning System at Motorola's Discrete and Special Technologies plant in Phoenix, Arizona are discussed. Human interface techniques such as object programming, icon representation of information, user vocabulary templating, and intelligent user query sessions are the major topics of the discussion. The method of interpreting the user knowledge acquired between the generic application program logic and the dynamic logic extracted from manufacturing experts.
