Sports training is incredibly important for athletes. Sports monitoring may improve physical capability with suitable exercise since it provides information on the athletes’ physical condition. The need for a tool to monitor training activities with sufficient accuracy is essential, thus the provided training can offer expected results and the exercise can be efficient. Recently, the devices for monitoring athletes or sports monitoring have been diverse, especially apparatus for measuring the velocity and distance of athletes when moved. An inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor is promising for sports monitoring to examine athletes’ gait. The data generated from the sensor is processed to determine the footsteps frequency and the linear velocity of the athletes’ movements. The work within this study employes an MPU6050 sensor involving an accelerometer and gyroscope in an IMU single chip with the setting of the gyroscope is 1000 degrees/s of the measurement scale range. The results indicate that this sport monitoring is feasible to investigate human gait, particularly footsteps frequency and linear velocity.
