Improvement of wind generator efficiency needs advanced and robust control methods to overcome different restrictions and ensure the optimum energy conversion. Due to the wind’s constantly changeable nature, if a wind turbine rotor operates at an optimum rotating velocity for a given wind speed, the output power capacity of a wind energy conversion system (WECS) can be maximized. This is accomplished by means of MPPT controller (maximum energy point tracking). In this paper, a variable gain real-twisting algorithm (VGRTA) is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous generator based wind energy conversion system. The proposed control method provides robustness as well as reduced chattering which is undesirable and leads to mechanical stress. The effectiveness and reliability of the control approach suggested is validated in Matlab/Simulink by comparing with real-twisting algorithm and feedback linearization MPPT control technique.
