Free vibration characteristics of tire were focused on in this paper. The tire was modeled as two short shells of revolution and two sets of springs (k_v,k_w) distributed uniformly along each end of the shell, and the two short shells were used to simulate the tire belt and wheel respectively, the two sets of springs were used to simulate the stiffness of tire sidewall. Based on the Donnell-Mushtari theory, an exact method was developed to calculate the natural frequency of tire with considering inflation pressure. This method was validated with data from references and FEA simulation, which proved to be accurate. And it was demonstrated, natural frequency of tire was influenced by inflation pressure evidently, generally, the higher tire inflation pressure, the higher natural frequency.
