Principal vibration modes of sports bicycle at the running condition

Vibration reduction of bicycles is important to improve the ride comfort. Especially, large vibration of the sports bicycles have a possibility to make the drivers fatigue and deteriorate the running performance. Hence it is more important to reduce the vibration of sports type bicycles. For the vibration reduction, countermeasure should be done considering the vibration mode and the vibration characteristic at the running condition. In this study, we attempted to extract important vibration modes for carrying out effective countermeasure by combining measurement vibration data at multiple points at the running condition and the information of the vibration mode. Principal component (PC) analysis was then applied to the running vibration data of the bicycle and PC mode was obtained at the large vibration frequencies of the bicycle frame. Subsequently, the similarity between the PC mode shapes and the vibration mode shapes were evaluated and actual excited vibration modes were estimated. Through the countermeasure considering the actual excited vibration mode, we verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.
