Measurement of high-frequency sounds radiated from industrial equipments and auditory evaluation - How many adults can hear the sound of around 19 kHz?

In this research, in order to clarify the state of hearing of high frequency noise, auditory evaluation test of a rat reporter having a peak in the vicinity of 19 kHz for 51 adults and a sound field measurement in the working space were performed. As a result, 50% of adult respondents answered "audible" the generated sound even under the condition of the lowest sound pressure level of about 108 dB (SPL). In addition, 34% answered that "well-audible" even among respondents aged 40 to 70 years old. The psychological impression of the generated sound is high, such as "uncomfortable", "noisy", "big", etc., and when the sound pressure level is higher, "pain in ear". It was confirmed that the score on the physiological influence rises.
