Conceptual design of ventilated acoustic devices applicable to the balcony of multi-residential buildings

In this paper, previous studies were reviewed to investigate the effectiveness of ventilated acoustic devices on traffic noise reduction in multi-residential buildings. Also, some commercial products applicable to the building facade were searched by dividing external and internal acoustic devices including parapet, lintel, plenum window with a staggered air inlet and outlet, resonant devices using louvers, etc. The result of the review indicates that the acoustic devices could be an effective tool to reduce traffic noise if the device is designed by focusing on acoustic aspects. Based on the review and search, conceptual design of the ventilated acoustic devices is illustrated in 2D and 3D. The main concept of the design is to apply horizontal slits with sound absorbing materials to reduce traffic noise. It is expected that the acoustic device is also effective in improving the energy efficiency of buildings by shading the light.
