JAXA's research plan for next generation air traffic management system (DREAMS) and noise abatement flight technologies

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has started a new research project called DREAMS (Distributed and Revolutionarily Efficient Air-traffic Management System) which aims to develop key technologies for future air traffic management systems. One topic examined by the project is noise abatement technology to maintain aircraft noise at current levels even after a 150% forecast growth in air traffic. This paper describes an overview of DREAMS, then introduces the concept of the noise abatement technology which controls noise exposure by optimizing approach paths considering the effects of meteorological conditions on noise propagation.
