JAXA's research plan for next generation air traffic management system (DREAMS) and noise abatement flight technologies

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has started a new research projectcalled DREAMS (Distributed and Revolutionarily Efficient Air-traffic ManagementSystem) which aims to develop key technologies for future air traffic management systems.One topic examined by the project is noise abatement technology to maintain aircraft noiseat current levels even after a 150% forecast growth in air traffic. This paper describes anoverview of DREAMS, then introduces the concept of the noise abatement technologywhich controls noise exposure by optimizing approach paths considering the effects ofmeteorological conditions on noise propagation.
