The concept of Tag gegen Larm-International Noise Awareness Day in Germany

In 2012 on April 25th Germany was celebrating the 15th Tag gegen Larm that counts for people's awareness regarding noise and counting on people's activities and actions at and around this event. The focus is on different noises and its sources and the way how people feel about that noise and how they act in the different daily noise scenarios. The action Tag gegen Larm is supported by different agencies and institutions, the main sponsor is the German Federal Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry for the Environment. Over the years it became also an action of the German Acoustical Society. The concept is based on the scientific input with regard to human health and noise effects and is a matter of public education, which is supported also through features and reports of the main broadcast stations. Also, many European countries stepped in. The action that the author of this paper brought into Germany was following the Noise Awareness Day in USA, which started as an initiative of the Center for Hearing and Communication (former League for the Hard of Hearing) and Nancy Nadler at that time of the late nineties. Nowadays noise awareness is part of quality of life.
