Design and Characteristics Analysis of a New type of Sound Barrier

Sound barrier is an effective means for high-speed train noise control. According to the intensity distribution of the noise sources and the frequency characteristics of the exterior noise made by a train in high-speed operation, a new sound barrier is designed to decrease the multi-reflection sound between train bodies and barriers. To evaluate the new barrier's capability in reducing the exterior noise, a series of numerical simulations and specimen tests on noise reduction effectiveness are conducted. The specimen tests are concerned with the noise reduction effectiveness of the new barrier which is in the distance of 6.25m to 50m far away from the track center line and at the height of 1.0m to 6.0m above the rail surface. The boundary element method (BEM) is used to evaluate the noise reduction effectiveness of the new sound barrier and show reasonable agreement with the specimen tests. A simple method is proposed to compare the real acoustic property of the new barrier and that of the traditional ones according to the onsite measurement results of high-speed train. The test and numerical results show that the novel barrier has the high noise reduction effectiveness.
