Challenges and Issues Involved in Wind Farm Protection

摘要

Generation of electricity from wind energy is increasingly becoming popular due to its environmental benefits when compared to conventional fossil fuel generation. Hence most countries have focused on integrating more and more wind power in to their power systems. This will pose significant barriers in terms of power system operation, protection and control. In this paper challenges and issues of wind farm protection are addressed with particular attention to generator protection, earthing aspects, lightning protection and interconnection protection. Further impacts on the power system from protection perspective are discussed.
