Hemocompatibility similar to ePTFE surfaces was shown for collagen type 1/PCL meshes with < 25% collagen. We observed differences in crystallinity and crystal direction with fibers containing 25% and 10% collagen that may help to explain why thrombois and inflammation are so different for different collagen compositions. Overall, these results confirm that the balance between collagen and PCL composition, and interaction of the components, plays a significant role in the biological response that the electrospun meshes promote.
