Consulting and temporary agencies are becoming more common at workplaces as a mean to evaluate and hire knowledge workers. For that reason, it is important to find how to train and manage short-term employees in the most time and cost efficient way to maximize their productivity. Literature reviews that collect sources useful for researchers interested in studying how to improve training time and costs in non-existent. In this paper, the State-of-the-Art Matrix Analysis methodology will be used to break down, analyze and compare historical and modern ideas and practices. This study will place special attention to literature that touches on factors that enable work-place learning. Engineering managers concerned about training and mentoring knowledge workers in rapid turn-over environments will find lower lead times on incoming employees and better overall effectiveness metrics.
