A Novel Descent Method of Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks

Many applications of wireless sensor networks (WSN) require information about the geographical location of each sensor node and locations of the sensor nodes are critical to both network operations and most application level tasks. Since localization is one of the fundamental problems in wireless sensor networks, this area attracted significant research interest. Although the GPS based localization schemes can be used to determine node locations within a few meters, the cost of GPS devices and non-availability of GPS signals in confined environments prevent their use in large scale sensor networks. Hence, localization schemes for sensor networks typically use a small number of seed nodes that know their location and protocols whereby other nodes estimate their location from the messages they receive. In this paper we introduced a new method of localization based on an optimization model which is unfortunately non-convex. In this paper we solve this non-convex model directly and without any approximation.
