One major concern with Electric Vehicle (EV) is its range anxiety. Consequently, there’s a need to develop a charger which transfers power directly from the residential grid supply to the vehicle. Converters used for charging in electric vehicles results in multiple shortcomings such as harmonic distortions at AC utility source along with lower Power Factor (PF). The EV chargers will be connected to grid for long hours (2-10hours), consequently the switching losses in converter will become significantly large. This paper proposes a new configuration used for battery charging of EVs using residential AC supply based of Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) Interleaved AC-DC Boost Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter & Interleaved DC-DC Buck Converter with the aim of lowering harmonics & switching losses, improving PF and providing supplementary grid services while diminishing range anxiety by ensuring easy availability of EV charging points.
