Power supply system is the basis for the healthy operation of microcomputer protection. This paper presents a new method to detect the health status of power plugs and design corresponding detection device, including data acquisition, data processing and data analysis. Using pointer ammeter, pointer voltmeter, disc high-power disk adjustable resistance, switching switch, micro oscilloscope and epoxy resin board, the detection device was built to measure the output voltage, current, ripple and start-up time of power plug with different voltage levels under different load current conditions. According to raw data, the ‘voltage/power curves’ and ‘start voltage timing diagrams’ are drawn. Compared with ‘standard curves’ acquired from test results of a large number for new power plugs in the same type, the health status of power plugs can be determined.
