Improving Performance of Ceiling Fan through EAC and Energy Saving by Smart Automation: A review

Comfort vs Energy Saving is a biggest concern that is faced by mankind. There usually exists a trade-off between them. In the modern world of Power Electronic Controllers and Smart Automation Systems it is necessary to use minimal power and achieve high efficiency, thereby minimize losses without compromising on performance of machine and not corrupting the utility power with harmonics. This paper discusses the available voltage controllers (i.e. speed controllers) to regulate speed with their control strategy, drawbacks in design, the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) contents, Power Factor vs Speed profiles and losses occurring in Power Electronic Switches. The power factor can be improved by employing EAC technique through smart automation and energy saving schemes. Thus, the speed of motor can be controlled smoothly, effectively and efficiently in Ceiling Fans, TABLE Fans, Air coolers and Wind Blowers etc. By implementation of such EAC controller the fan life is also increased.
