Time-frequency analysis is widely used in underwater target detection and recognition because it can characterize the time structure and spectral characteristics of signals at the same time and provide more detailed information. It has become a powerful tool for analyzing the scattering characteristics of targets and suppressing the reverberation of oceans. Compared with the Wigner-Ville distribution, the adaptive time-frequency distribution has good time and frequency resolution and can suppress the cross terms. In this paper, adaptive time-frequency distribution of echo signal is used to extract the two-dimensional time-frequency characteristics of target echoes, which can provide features that can characterize target attributes for underwater target recognition. The analysis of sea trial data shows that the classification effect of reverberation, buried rock and mine based on adaptive time-frequency distribution is good.
