Surface resistance to erosion for various polymer composites containing conductive nanofillers

Whether the surface resistance to erosion of a polymer nanocomposite system containing a conductive phase could be affected is the topic of this contribution. In order to answer this question, two material systems were fabricated and studied. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) was prepared using ball-milling with Graphene Oxide (GO) up to 0.3 wt%. Epoxy resin was mixed with Carbon Black (CB) up to a content of 10 wt%. Samples considered having an insulating nature (at 1 to 3 V) were submitted to erosion test using partial discharges. It was observed that such samples could become conducting at the higher voltage used for the erosion experiment. Above all, if the samples remained insulating, a positive enhancement of 10 to 15 % of the surface resistance to erosion of both systems was found.
