The boron/potassium nitrate Microspheres which is used as pyrotechnic initiator is prepared by Electrostatic Spraying with nitrocellulose as binder, the reaction activity is measured by the TG-DSC, in order to evaluate the ignition capability it is used to ignite the Guanidine Nitrate/Basic Cupric Nitrate gas generator in Closed bomb test. The results show that the diameter of the spheres is approximately 1-5 urn, the reaction peak temperature obtained from TG-DSC decreased from 443°C to 388°C, B/KNO3 sphere gets shorter ignition time and higher pressure. It takes only 2.18s to ignite the gas generator completely which is 2.32s for traditional Boron/Potassium Nitrate. In general, Boron/Potassium Nitrate spheres show enhanced ignition capability and could be utilized in a broad variety of combustion systems.
