This analysis describes the use of a Volume of Fluid (VOF) multiphase three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model utilizing an OpenFOAM adaptive remeshing technique to simulate the injection of water from a nozzle used in the sound suppression system during rocket launch operations. Adaptive re-meshing reduces the overall mesh and locally refines the mesh in the high gradient areas improving the accuracy of the results at the boundary between the water and air interface. It also helps reduce the overall time to solve and memory required for this time dependent analysis.
