Agile methods such as Scrum or XP have recently reached the development of safety related products after they have been successfully applied to software for some time. This paper briefly reviews Agile concepts and then discusses them in context of the safety lifecycle. Questions addressed are the type of developments that could be covered (electronics, firmware, software) as well as the added value for the organization in terms of release time, improved quality and safety through test automation, better communication and understanding of requirements and finally improved customer intimacy.
