Power system parameter monitoring data constitutes an enormous volume of information, particularly with high sampling frequencies. Compression of such data is of extreme importance not only for reducing storage constraints, but also useful for transferring data over suitable communication channel. Though data compression reduces the volume of data, management of data requires certain additional fields along with compressed information for selecting the desired data from a large pool of data. Cloud based server will have its own advantages over the traditional LAN/ WAN servers. This paper investigates the feasibility of realizing a cloud based server for managing generation scheduling and parameter monitoring information which constitutes the power system operational data. Several fields were identified for managing such information for extracting the desired information from a certain file. A cloud based generation scheduling information management system can be realised where compressed data transfer can occur between Generating Stations (GS), Distribution Companies (DCs) and Load Despatch Centres (LDCs).
