Stability of a Community Microgrid in Islanded Mode: A Case Study

When a microgrid operates in the islanded mode, stability becomes an issue if the system is not properly designed. This paper presents case studies of a single-phase community microgrid in the islanded mode to investigate the stability issues. The simulation results indicate that a microgrid can be prone to instability due to the interaction between DER units. It also shows the sensitivity of microgrid stability to the DER design and control. This suggests the need for more robust DER interface design and more robust DER control to maintain the microgrid stability.
