Design and Simulation of DC-DC Buck Converter using Cadence Tool

With the evolution of technology, scope for power management chips are increased. Due to this there is a large need for DC - DC converter. In this proposed paper a buck converter is designed for 1.2 V which uses Pulse width Modulation (PWM) technique in voltage mode. The simulation is carried out using cadence tool with 180nm technology and hardware implementation is also done to compare the simulated results. The switches used are PMOSFET and NMOSFET for the proposed system design. A comparator and an op-amp with a large gain and good stability has been designed for fulfilling the closed loop requirements of the buck converter. The voltage of the input is varied from 3V to 8V and the converter is switched at 1MHz.
