The Power sector in India provides major opportunities for reducing energy consumption by creating awareness on existing Energy inefficiencies of practical, operational and financial nature. Substitution of more inductive Energy inefficient pump sets in agriculture has been identified as one of the key strategy initiatives, which is up to date, has been limited to a few pilot projects. The objective is to replace Energy inefficient pumpsets with the (Bureau of energy efficiency) BEE 5 star rated Energy efficient pumpsets. This paper gives detailed energy audit of the total pump sets existing in the study area. The study includes measuring the present operating efficiency of 973 agricultural pump sets which were identified in the thirty one feeders of Sampathnagaram section, East Godavari District, AP and The practical efficiency analysis has been demonstrated by replacing the existing pump sets with the BEE 5 star rated energy efficient pumpsets.The efficiency analysis reveals that the energy consumption drastically reduced, which leads to energy saving on the feeders at consumer end. Also a future insight into the Demand side management and promoting the BEE energy efficient Pump sets on rural area. This involvement can lead to lower energy supply on the feeder, and for this reason lower subsidized energy sale by utilities and the subsidy to be paid by the State Government will be reduced.
