Towards a Comprehensive Expert System for Coronavirus Disease

The objective of this work is to provide an operational expert system aimed at helping decision-makers, health workers, and hospital nursing staff in their task of analysis, diagnosis and care of Covid-19 patients. The tool may be extended to other respiratory illnesses. The most powerful weapon against any pandemic is the knowledge about the pathogen agents, its transmission mode, its evolution, and the consequences they cause, and also about the actions in terms of research on drugs, vaccines, and health measures to be taken, not only for curbing the transmission of the virus, but also to eventually eradicate it. The main challenge of this work is to collect, represent and make accessible all knowledge about the coronavirus pandemic using an expert tool. Beyond the diagnostic module of Covid-19, our proposed expert system includes many other functionalities such as those related to vaccination and to analysis of complementary examinations. The proposed interface can be generalized for all mobile platforms. Taking into account possible mutations of coronavirus, the present work is ongoing. For future improvements, we will widen our tool with additional module related to the analysis of the side effects of Covid-19 vaccination on a given population to predict actions to be taken.
