U.S. - Russian nuclear cooperation, essential to avoid a nuclear catastrophe in the years following the end of the Cold War, began to decline and then come to an almost complete stop during the past six years as relations between Moscow and Washington deteriorated. I will describe how Doomed to Cooperate ~1 was completed during those difficult times and how the prospects for renewed cooperation have improved after the U.S. elections. I will make the case that Russia and the U.S. must continue to cooperate to reduce today's nuclear dangers regardless of how the geopolitical relations develop.
