The association of soil and microorganisms is known to be existent since the formation of earth. However, conventional geotechnical engineering practices has only considered mechanical loading on the soil without taking into account of the biological aspects that might be associated. Keeping this in view, the present research was designed to study the impact of biological loading on the geo-material. Bacterium Proteus vulgaris was inoculated and incubated with two coarse grained soil samples namely, standard sand and aeolian sand and the effects of bacteria on soil samples were observed. Also, efforts were made to develop a protocol that could be used to establish bio-geo interface in coarsegrained geo-materials. However, long term and in-depth study is essential in this aspect to have a clear and broader image of the interaction, which could have prospective application in geo-technical engineering.
