Conclusions: From these observed results one can conclude that the 2-ply and 3-ply collagen yarns have more desired maximum loads. However, in terms of initial modulus, the 2-ply yarn is preferred since a high initial modulus is a required property of a rotator cuff patch. Hydrolytic degradation needs to be conducted for a longer period time so as to determine the degradation rate of this highly crosslinked collagen material. Further evaluation of the in vivo degradation rate and mechanism for this collagen material will be necessary so as to compare its performance with its in vitro degradation.
