Conclusions: The combination of LPC and NGF did not increase the rate of regeneration of the damaged sciatic nerve. LPC does not increase or decrease the rate of regeneration for a crushed nerve. NGF may not be as important for regeneration as initially thought due to its lack of effect in the healing process. Electrophysiology may not be as useful as a measurement tool as both gait and morphology showed that the nerves had recovered by 6 weeks but electrophysiology did not. Future work is needed to look at the initial effects of LPC to see if it may be slowing the initial healing processes.
