Conclusions: The novel laminate PEG-ESM composites exhibited mechanical behavior similar to native layered tissues at both macroscopic and microscopic levels, and showed good resistance to calcification and enzyme degradation in vitro, and good biocompatibility in vivo, which may be used as artificial substitutes for heart valve leaflets and blood vessels.
