摘要

Conclusions: This study is significant because it examines patient factors in the context of individual patient outcomes. Previous studies often neglect the important role of the unique host environment that the mesh is being implanted into. The factor analysis used in this study identifies patient variables, which can be used to group patients into subpopulations. These subpopulations, which respond variably to different biomaterials, can be used to optimize patient outcome and improve value for both the patient and hospital. These concepts, which have been explored in this study, have the potential to be expanded to other areas of healthcare that involve implantation of biomaterials, which can result in the improvement of patient outcomes for many clinical applications. Future studies should also include a larger and more diverse sample of meshes and patient groups in order to obtain more accurate predictive algorithms.
