Sex Differences of Drivers' Parking Behavior: The Influence of Environment, Psychology, and Driving Ability

Parking is a complex spatial cognitive process combined with physiological and psychological factors. Although drivers' parking behavior has been paid more attention gradually, few studies about drivers' parking behavior from the psychological factors could be found. In order to explore the sex differences of drivers' parking behavior, this paper investigated 196 drivers (152 males, 44 females) in China. The results showed that male drivers' driving experience and driving frequency were significantly correlated to their errors and irregularities, whereas female drivers' age and total mileages were significantly correlated to the violations. Besides, female drivers were more likely to be affected by the parking environment than males. Through the multiple regression analysis, we found that male drivers' emotional psychology has a predicted effect on lapses, errors, and violations. Meanwhile, the more parking environment influences, the more lapses and errors male drivers make.
